قصة الفيلم:

يقوم المسن Shukishi (Chishu Ryu) وزوجته Tomi (Chieko Higashiyama) ، بالرحلة الطويلة من قريتهم الساحلية الصغيرة لزيارة أطفالهم البالغين في طوكيو. ابنهما الأكبر ، كويتشي (سات يامامورا) ، طبيب ، وابنتهما ، شيج (هاروكو سوجيمورا) ، مصفف شعر ، ليس لديهم الكثير من الوقت لقضاء مع والديهم المسنين ، وهكذا يسقط أمام نوريكو (سيتيسوكو هارا) ، ، أرملة ابنها الأصغر الذي قُتل في الحرب ، لإبقاء شركة صهرها.
